January Rotisserie Rankings - Defense

I used the yahoo default league scoring to judge who had the best roto performance among all NHL defencemen through January.

Goals/Assists/Plus-Minus/Power Play Points/PIMS/Shots on Goal

Now these rankings are not on projected basis or positional importance. They are based on who actually performed the best in the roto categories amongst all NHL defensemen through January.

Sheldon Souray has returned to the fantasy elite and continues to lead all defensemen, a fantasy superstar because fantasy only counts half the game. Dion Phaneuf has rebounded from a slow start to pass the rest of the field and is knocking on the door for top spot.

1. Sheldon Souray (Edm - D)
2. Dion Phaneuf (Cgy - D)
3. Mike Green (Was - D)
4. Zdeno Chara (Bos - D)
5. Rob Blake (SJS - D)
6. Shea Weber (Nas - D)
7. Chris Pronger (Ana - D)
8. Dan Boyle (SJS - D)
9. Scott Niedermayer (Ana - D)
10. Ed Jovanovski (Phx - D)

22. Brent Burns (Min - D)
23. Kyle Quincey (LAK - D)

25. Brian Rafalski (NJD - D)

Bubble: Kevin Bieksa, Joni Pitkanen, Alexander Edler, Ryan Suter, Kimmo Timonen, Mike Commodore, Keith Ballard, Bryan McCabe, John Michael Liles, Roman Hamrlik

Now this is the result of weighting all categories equally which rotisserie rankings do. Being number one in goal scoring is the same as being number one in penalty minutes. It is one of the reasons I don't believe in PIMs in Fantasy Hockey.

January Rotisserie Rankings - Rookies

I used the yahoo default league scoring to judge who had the best roto performance among all NHL rookies through January.

Goals/Assists/Plus-Minus/Power Play Points/PIMS/Shots on Goal

Now these rankings are not on projected basis or positional importance. They are based on who actually performed the best in the roto categories amongst all NHL rookies through January.

So players like Colin Fraser will be listed above players like Oscar Moller and Max Paccioretty because he has played more games. His fantasy impact may be less, but he has been more productive because he has been in the lineup.

Kris Versteeg still tops the list, but Blake Wheeler and Bobby Ryan are making their move. I expect that barring injury, Ryan will be atop this list by the end of the season.

1. Kris Versteeg (Chi - RW)

24. Luke Schenn (Tor - D)
25. Matt Hunwick (Bos - D)

Bubble: Matt D'Agostini, Nikolai Kulemin, Oscar Moller, Tomas Pilhal, Adam Pardy, Adam Winchester, Luca Sbisa

Now this is the result of weighting all categories equally which rotisserie rankings do. Being number one in goal scoring is the same as being number one in penalty minutes. It is one of the reasons I don't believe in PIMs in Fantasy Hockey.

I used the yahoo default league scoring to judge who had the best roto performance among all NHL skaters through January.

50. Martin St. Louis (TB - RW)

Bubble: Michael Cammaleri, Ryan Clowe, Devin Setoguchi. Dan Boyle, Olli Jokinen, Johan Franzen, Derek Roy, Travis Zajac, Brian Gionta

Now this is the result of weighting all categories equally which rotisserie rankings do. Being number one in goal scoring is the same as being number one in penalty minutes. It is one of the reasons I don't believe in PIMs in Fantasy Hockey.

January Rotisserie Rankings - Goalies

Once again I used the yahoo default league scoring to judge who had the best roto performance among all NHL goaltenders through December.

Wins/Goals Against Average/Save Percentage/Shutouts

Now these rankings are not on projected basis or positional importance. They are based on who actually performed the best in the roto categories amongst all NHL goaltenders through January, with the minimum of 20 games played.

Goals/Assists/Plus-Minus/Power Play Points/PIMS/Shots on Goal

Now these rankings are not on projected basis or positional importance. They are based on who actually performed the best in the roto categories amongst all NHL rookies in October.

Kris Versteeg was the biggest beneficiary of Derrick Brassard's injury as it allowed him to leap Brassard and occupy the top slot in the roto rankings through December.
